Story time: Why we're here

This is something different that I'm playing around with. Short stories about things that happen in my day today.

It's a slightly different style, but I had fun writing it.

We say we're here for a walk.

There was a gloom in the air this morning, but a lot of people showed up. I was especially excited. I missed out on last week.

The rain was refreshing at first. Warm rain, that's different. We did the usual routine and started the walk. Lightening in the distance caused a few smiles.

The sky slowly darkened. And the rain got heavier, and heavier, and heavier. We kept walking, talking. At some point it started gushing down the path.

Squelching.

We laughed nervously, joking about overcoming hardship. A few wise ones backed out, calling it a day.

That's when the hail started. Even more of a challenge, great.

Someone came to their senses. It was right around when the quarter-sized stones started pelting us. We should really turn back

Fall back to Minas Bennu.

Living to fight another day, we turned back. Adrenaline flowing. Excited smiles all around. There's something about a shared experience.

Sodden through, waterlogged boots. I'm surprised nobody fell over. We got back to safety. The rain stopped right about then, of course. The conversations bloomed again. An hour passed. Still there, some shivering.

Worth it.

We're here for a walk. That's what we say, but it's more. Today proved that.

Connections, conversations, community.

That's why we're here.
