Akhil's Notes

Why should you should make more things?

Because you can.

It's like running: hard, uncomfortable, and can be miserable.

But it's an absolute privilege.

Ideas are always perfect in your head. Bringing them into the world is scary. It makes you see how unclear they really are. When your idea first sees the light, it's fuzzy; you can feel the beauty but it needs work. You have to chip away at it.

There's so much beauty anything you create, especially if it's for yourself.

Sometimes we have to create things for others. That can be for work, family, or other commitments. That's better than nothing.

But creating for yourself is the most freeing. It's been magical for me.

It's small habit I've been building.

My (almost) daily journaling and occasional longer writing has been surprisingly cathartic. Who needs to pay for therapy when you can do this for free?

My practice always starts off as mundane.

I write what I'm grateful for, what's on my mind, and what I'm working on.

Three simple prompts. Makes it feel easy.

It's like nudging a boulder on a hill.

It doesn't budge at first. Trust the process, they said. It'll happen.

Did you feel that?

It just moved. Now it's rolling, gaining momentum.

Faster.

It's really moving now. You're just trying to keep up. You couldn't stop this thing even if you wanted to; you're along for the ride.

Don't let go.

At some point it slows down. Now, it might need a couple more nudges to stop where you want it.

As rolls to a stop, you look back at the distance you covered and smile. Proud.

That'll do for today.

You look ahead, you're on the top of another hill.

Ready for tomorrow.
