Akhil's Notes

Keep the main thing, the main thing

It's easy to get distracted with random things that feel important or productive, but they're really a waste of time. I literally just clicked off of a YouTube video with a guy explaining the top 5 coding projects someone should do to help them stand out in software engineering interviews. I'm not even a software engineer!

I caught myself in the act and had to write this down.

Recently, I've taken a step to block (even more) social media from my phone. The goal is to to avoid defaulting to consumption mode; I need more breathing room to be creative. Right now, that's putting thoughts into writing and exploring ideas.

As for that video, I bet a lot of viewers are just like me: they had no business learning about those coding projects. That's no knock on the video, it's probably great; it's not relevant for my goals right now. I watched it simply because the algorithm put it in front of me.

I've known that being intentional with media consumption is so important. It's one of the reasons I've stopped keeping up with the news; so much of it feels so biased.

There's a few pieces of media I do enjoy consuming regularly, which toe the line between entertainment and information

Next time I catch myself wasting time, I'm going to default to writing.

Anyway, quick reminder to myself to stay on track with the main thing.
